Student
leaders abducted as the University denies students access to food
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
April 16, 2007
Students at the Masvingo
State University are facing perpetual denial to food by their university
administration citing non-payment of the top up fees. Students have
gone for days without food and many are resorting to unhygienic,
cheap and inconsistent meals prepared and sold in nearby high density
suburbs. ZINASU Vice President Gideon Chitanga, has made frantic
efforts in a bid to negotiate with the relevant authorities to come
up with an amicable solution. The University is adamant and has
opted for withdrawal of one such basic and essential service to
the students. Lectures are sparingly going on. However, ZINASU has
scheduled a meeting with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education
in seeking address to this deepening crisis at MASU.
