Student leader appears in court
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
March 30, 2007

Masvingo State University (MASU) Student Representative Council (SRC) Secretary General, Edson Hlatshwayo will appear in court today facing charges of mallicious damage to property.

Edson is alleged to have petrol bombed a state owned Zimbabwe United Passengers Company (ZUPCO) bus together with some Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) youths at Mashate Township some 41 km from Masvingo town.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charge. Dumisani Hwacha of Muzenda and partners is representing him.

The government is sponsoring hired thugs and youth militia to carry out acts of terrorism blaming it on the opposition. This is mearnt to create an impression that the opposition is violent hense justifying its brutal, total and vicious clampdown on the pro-democracy activists.

Meanwhile, the two female student leaders who were arrested on the 28th of March were subjected to brutal assaults and they could hardly walk and talk when they were released yesterday.
