Zimbabwe
National Students Union Executive arrested
Zimbabwe National
Students Union (ZINASU)
September 08, 2006
The Zimbabwe
National Students Union Executive have been arrested. The arrested
include the Vice President Gideon Chitanga,Secretary General Beloved
Chiweshe and the Information and Publicity Secretary Lynnette Mudehwe. The
students leaders were having a strategic workshop ahead of the ZCTU
and the ZINASU mass protests that are on wednesday and thursday
respectively.
The arrests
come on the heels of massive threats by the ZANU PF Regime that
they will crush any attemts to protest the current socio-economic
and political hardships and the educational dillemma which ZANU
PF have created. They are being charged with planning to carry out
an unlawful protest. The charges are however spurrious ,concocted
and devoid of any legal merit. The regime can not implement the innocent
till proven guilty doctrine vice-versa unless they are covertly
admitting that the rule of law has irreversibly broken down and
replaced by rule by law.
The Zimbabwe
Lawyers for Human Rights are assisting with legal issues. We
would like to reiterate our commitment to embark on peaciful and
lawful protests as planned. We remain resolute ,steadyfast and undeterred
and our actions on the said date are going on as planned and unabated,we
wish to inform ZANU PF that this is the same Union with the propensity
to fight at a relentless capacity and that our students are infacted
motivated by and geared for the arrests as a way to prove to the
world that the regime has lost the last iota of adherenece to the
rule of law .
We condenm the
arrests in the most vehement of possible terms and would like to
warn Government to start to be responsive to the sensibilities of
the people before they are swept away by the Democratic storm. Our
protests are not a secret and will not hide. THEY ARE GOING AHEAD
AS PLANNED.
The people will
conquer
