ZINASU
commemorates International Youth Day
Zimbabwe National
Students Union (ZINASU)
August 11, 2006
ZINASU joins the rest of
the youth community the world over in comemmorating the International
Youth day (August 12) , whose theme for this year is TACKLING
POVERTY TOGETHER!
This is a very important
day in the lives of young people as it should ideally give them
a platform to look into the problems they are facing and also to
explore possible solutions. The greatest tragedy however facing the
youth is that the youth agenda has been highjacked by people who
are far from being youths and whose aspirations do not even resonate
with those of the ordinary young person of today. This is particularly
so in third world countries, the majority of which still dont adhere
to the standard age of what can be truly termed a youth. This is
the sad reality which faces Zimbabwe apart from the countless other
problems which have had a very negative impact on the growth of
the youth towards the realisation of the protection and promotion
of their aspirations , freedoms and rights.
A case in point is the ZANU
PF National leadership at whose helm is Absolom Sikhosana and Saviour
Kasukuwere who have long exceeded the age range defined for youths
by the United Nations.lt is against this background that we at ZINASU
insist that the youth function currently underway in Victoria Falls
is devoid of a real Youth -oriented agenda as it is led by the above
mentioned middle-aged men nearing their prime.Further , the process
was not consultative and ver partisan.
ZINASU therefore makes the
following stand in respect to the lnternational Youth Day.
- That we condenm the ZANU
PF fiasco in Victoria Falls as a highjacked agenda by zanu pf
HOODLUMS who are trying to divert youths from real issues ,
- That they have shamelessly
hoodwinked the regional member states to be party to this crusade
of plunderring taxpayers`money
- *That they can not honestly
address youth problems that they have failed to address in the
past 26 years of their misgovernance, corrupt and illegitimate
rule TODAY.
- That issues like unemployment,HIV/AIDS,
Health and Education, are the cornerstones of a solid foundation
upon which the youth can start from.Sadly ,these are inherently
absent and the government seems intent on continuing to perpetrate
their absence.
- Lastly that a real youth
program which adheres to the standerd age will be taking place
at the Harare Gardens where youths will attempt to answer the
hard questions and persue the Save Zimbabwe Convention resolutrons
by begginning to mobilise for a sustained democratic resistence
program which we believe is the answer and the lasting solution
to our problems as young people. We will also come up with a firm
statement as a foundation for recliming the youth agenda.
- We say no youths being
used as canon fodder for political expediency.
- We say we are not leaders
of tommorrow but of today. The future is proudly ours.
- We have more vested interest
than the bolshevik revolutionaries that are currently determining
our future.
Please leave us to determine
our own destiny.
