Statement from African Parliamantarians Network Against Corruption
African Parliamantarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC) Zimbabwe
Extracted from The Herald (Zimbabwe)
April 14, 2006

The Zimbabwean Chapter of the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC Zimbabwe) and its Secretariat Transparency International Zimbabwe (TI-Z) would like to congratulate the House of Assembly and the Zimbabwean Government, specifically the Ministry of State Enterprises, Anti Corruption and Anti Monopolies for its bold step in ratifying the two major anti corruption instruments, the UN Convention Against Corruption and the AU Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption and Related Offences.

APNAC Zimbabwe through the facilitation of its Secretariat TI-Z has been working closely with the Ministry in lobbying for the speedy ratification of the AU Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption. It is therefore with a great sense of appreciation that we note the Honourable Minister Paul Mangwana’s statements in the House of Assembly in a motion calling for the ratification of the regional and global anti corruption instruments.

Government is commended for a demonstrable show of political will at the highest level. We hope that this will translate into tangible emphatic action in the fight against corruption for the grassroots. We also note and want to encourage further the government’s readiness to work with various stakeholders, including APNAC and civil society organisations as we seek a holistic and inclusive national strategy to the eradication of the scourge of corruption in our country.

It is our hope that the convention will be domesticated speedily and once domesticated both the regional and international instruments will assist greatly in harmonising and strengthening the effectiveness of anti-corruption legislation, policies and implementation.

Our continued support to anti corruption initiatives in Zimbabwe is unwavering. As a growing network of legislation against corruption, we look forward to corruption free Zimbabwe.

The Chairperson
APNAC Zimbabwe
Hon. MP for Kambuzuma
Willas Madzimure
