Zimbabwe Social Forum
Zimbabwe Social Forum Secretariat
August 18, 2004

The Zimbabwe Social Forum is a continuation of the African Social Forum (ASF), which has been taking place annually since Bamako, Mali (2002). The ASF is a prelude to the World Social Forum (WSF), which was first initiated in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2001.

The WSF is now an annual event that is deliberately organised to coincide with the World Economic Forum, where rich nations and powerful multinational companies meet to make key decisions on global polices that do affect the welfare of the general people.

The timing of the WSF is meant to signify civil society voices opposing the high level profit motivated deliberations at the expense of poor countries and their citizens.

In, essence the ZSF is an open space where people from all walks of life meet to share their experiences, which are somehow related to the negative impact of Globalisation.
