Big
names likely to lose the elections

August 01, 2013
Some so-called
‘big names’ in the
just ended harmonized elections held yesterday 31 July 2013
in Zimbabwe, are likely to fall by the electoral way-side giving
in to other political parties as speculations are now high that
Zanu-PF’s old aged and ailing Robert Mugabe is likely to come
victorious over MDC-T’s Morgan Tsvangirai in the local authority
and national assembly elections .
According to
the inconclusive results obtained through the Habakkuk Trust election
observer mission in parts of Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and North,
current indications are that most incumbent Members and Councillors
in these areas are likely to lose their seats to Zanu-PF or MDC-T
contenders.
Of those that
have been speculated to be at the risk of losing the elections are
MDC legislators Moses Mzila Ndlovu (Bulilima West), David Coltart
(Bulawayo East) and Edward Mukhosi (Mangwe Constituency). The MDC-T
is also set to have its own casualties, as Bulawayo Central MP Dorcas
Sibanda appears to be neck to neck with Zanu-PF candidate Mlungisi
Moyo.
Zanu-PF’s
Tsholotsho candidate Jonathan Moyo seems to be losing to MDC-T candidate
and wife to Water Resources and Development Minister Samuel Siphepha
Nkomo. The same is speculated of Zanu-PF Makokoba constituency candidate
Colonel Tshinga Dube whom indications point to a loss to MDC-T’s
Gorden Moyo.
However, trickling
results from Bubi and Mguza constituencies are pointing to a Zanu-PF
victory there.
Leader of the
MDC Professor Welshman Ncube seems to be losing in most of the polling
stations as he is garnering few votes compared to his two inclusive
government counterparts.
Meanwhile Morgan
Tsvangirai has been reported in the press describing this election
as a sham and calling for an electoral audit.
Habakkuk observer
mission in car accident
A team of the
Habakkuk Trust election observer mission that was observing in Insiza
was today in the morning involved in a car accident at the early
hours of the day around 3am as the team was returning from the polling
stations. According to the team leader of the group Pastor Cleopas
Ncube, their vehicle overturned near Mayfair dam and fortunately
no one was injured in the process.
The Habakkuk
command centre has dispatched a recovery vehicle to assist the accident
victims.
