  • Chilly weather fails to deter Matabeleland voters
    Habakkuk Trust
    July 31, 2013

Queues averaging 60 to 70 people were observed outside the polling stations in most communities of Matabeleland despite the chilly weather prevailing in the region.

The Habakkuk Trust observer mission working in Matabeleland areas of Bulawayo, Bubi, Mguza, Gwanda, Matobo, Mzingwane and Tsholotsho reports that voting began on time in most polling stations without any irregularities observed.

So far Sizinda polling stations in Bulawayo (an area inhabitant by former aliens) have recorded very long queues of 206, 108 and 127 voters at Maphisa Primary, Sizinda Pre-school A and B respectively. These three polling stations are within a radius of 500m from each other. At Gohole and Bidi Primary schools in Matobo voting began at 0701 with long queues and there were about 20 people sleeping outside Gohole polling station.
