Another black Thursday as Constitutional Court dismisses election
date extension case
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition
July 04, 2013
The Constitutional
Court has dismissed Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and three others’
applications, in which the quartet was contesting the holding
of elections by end of this month.
All the nine
judges sitting as a constitutional court unanimously ruled that
the PM’s application be dismissed and that elections should
be held on the 31st of July 2013 in line with its earlier ruling
in the Constitutional Court Case Number CCZ1/13 filed by Jealous
Mbizvo Mawarire vs. President Mugabe and others.
In dismissing
the matter the Constitutional Court reserved reasons for its ruling.
There was no order for costs given.
The four applications
were made after President Robert Mugabe unilaterally
proclaimed July 31 as the day for the holding of elections,
following a Constitutional Court order.
