Annual General Meeting update

Bulawayo Agenda
held its 11th non-elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) at its offices
over the weekend. The AGM was attended by Bulawayo Agenda’s
Board Members, Chapter Committee Chairpersons and representatives
of civil society organisations who are members of Bulawayo Agenda.
These civil society organisations present were as follows: ZimRights,
ZICEA, WOZA,
Radio
Dialogue, BPRA,
ZLHR,
AEA, Victory Siyanqoba
and Zimbabwe
Peace Project.
Key Highlights
of the AGM:
- Corrections
to the previously adopted constitutionalisation of Bulawayo Agenda’s
Chapters were read out and adopted.
- In his speech,
Bulawayo Agenda Chairperson Royal Ntini presented the need to
hold elections in Bulawayo Agenda’s Chapters so as to fill
the vacant posts caused by deaths and resignation of some members
to pursue their political careers.
- The Chairperson
further gave an overview of how hostile the 2012 operating environment
was pointing out how Bulawayo Agenda has survived the continued
attacks on the state media.
- The Chairperson
also presented that Bulawayo Agenda successfully hosted the 2012
Ideas Festival together with the organisation’s 10th Anniversary
Celebrations giving credit to the Bulawayo Agenda community for
the sterling work.
- Bulawayo
Agenda’s Executive Director Thabani Nyoni presented that
the organisation carry out its mandate in 2012 as guided by its
vision through various activities that included civic education
and voter mobilisation, public outreach campaigns, capacity building
and trainings, peace building and also forming partnerships and
networking with various stakeholders.
- The Executive
Director further highlighted that the organisation produced various
publications that were widely shared with the citizens and also
strengthened its publicity strategy leading to a wide coverage
of its activities by local and international media.
- The Executive
Director pointed out that the organisation was increasing its
global reach through various social networks it has adopted and
put into use and these included the Blog, Facebook, Twitter and
the organizational website.
- The 2012
Annual Report was distributed among the participants and will
also be available for downloading on the website (Publications
section) soon.
Participants
observed a moment of silence in remembrance of the departed former
board member Iyazi Mlilo and Gweru Agenda former Chairperson Sibusisiwe
Sanya.
