Youths embrace Poets' Peace campaign
Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition

Hundreds of youths thronged Zengeza 2 Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza on Saturday April 20 for a Peace Screen Printing Festival which was organised by the Zimbabwe Poets for Human Rights (ZPHR).

In embracing the peace message that ZPHR propagated, the youths and general public signified the quest for peace and non-violence as the country approaches the forthcoming harmonized elections expected in 2013.

Some of the youths ended up bringing their shirts to the stand for printing.

ZPHR founding member and National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations Secretary General Michael Mabwe said:

“From the response we have received, it is clear that the peace message we are preaching is gaining ground among the young people.”

The ZPHR in collaboration with a private company Surrey Meats offered T-Shirts as prizes for the winners of the various promotional competitions focusing on the company’s products and printed them at the stand manned by ZPHR graphic artists.

They emblazoned various messages promoting peace and the participation of youth in the forthcoming elections such as “PEACE TODAY PEACE FOREVER”, “I’LL VOTE THIS YEAR”, “THE FUTURE STARTS TODAY” and “YES WE CAN”.

Various renowned youth artists, musicians, dancers and poets performed at the event while some youths did group painting sessions on two big banners where they wrote “I’LL VOTE IN PEACE” and “YES WE CAN”.

The event was also graced by leaders and members of other youth organisations such as the Zimbabwe National Students Union, Build A Better Youth Zimbabwe and Youth Alliance for Democracy.
