On 19 February
at Gonyora Primary School, Ward 30, it was discovered by the
School Development Association (SDA) that the school’s
headmaster a staunch ZANU PF activist was misusing school funds
to campaign for a Parliamentary seat. Upon hearing this, parents
staged a demonstration against the Headmaster, led by the SDA
chairman Mr. Lovemore Madzana who is also the aspiring ZANU
PF councilor for ward 30. Among the parents where people from
all political parties. The headmaster called in the police to
intervene but ironically the police intervened by arresting
the sitting MDC councilor for ward 30, Mr. Muchabaya and Trymore
Maadza. The two were arrested by sergeants from Berchinough
Bridge police post which falls under Nyanyadzi police station.
The two were taken to court on 08 March and were further remanded
out of custody to 08 April. |

Chamutsa's area, ward 33, Deure village, Jefta Masikati, a ZANU
PF ward chairperson and Peter Nendanga a soldier from 3 brigade
Mutare harassed teachers at Chiunga Primary school and accused
them of not keeping the school’s national flag clean as
well as not attending ZANU PF meetings. On 14 February, the
two unilaterally changed the composition of the School Development
Committee accusing the then sitting member of being members
of the MDC who are driving MDC agendas in the area. |

On Monday
04 March, George Makore and Mr. Chipambwa of Marenga village
in ward 6 under Chief Makumbe area were threatened with death
by two ZANU PF youths leaders, Mr Ganzi and Mr. Organ Nyahwo
because of the role they played at Professor John Makumbe’s
funeral. The perpetrators said the two were dancing and singing
a lot at the funeral and this showed that they were members
of the MDC. |

On 28 February,
Mr. Mandipaza a ZANU PF aspiring MP for Buhera West launched
his campaign at a meeting held at Marume Primary School in Ward
5, where he donated building materials. In his address, he intimidated
villagers present threatening them with death if they vote for
any other party which is not ZANU PF in the upcoming elections. |

On the
first of March, a COPAC publicity meeting
on the referendum was held at Ngangu hall in Ward 15, Chimanimani
constituency. ZANU PF supporters came to the meeting clad in
their party regalia which made other participants from other
political parties uncomfortable. The ZANU PF supporters were
singing revolutionary songs taking turns to castigate all anti-ZANU
PF supporters causing some participants to flee from the meeting.
The situation however calmed after the intervention of members
of the police from Chimanimani who swiftly moved in to disperse
everyone who was putting on party regalia. |

In Chiendambuya,
ward 5, soldiers have camped at the GMB offices. On 2 March,
the members of the Zimbabwe national army comprising of Gladys
Kadungura and Mako Chigudu together with ZANU PF youths, Alexio
Mapuranga, Bernard Chidemo and Phillip Nyakarombo forced Headman
Tungamirwa and Headman Mugadza to call their people for a meeting.
The meeting was called under the guise of a community development
meeting but the participants were shocked when they discovered
that it was actually a ZANU PF caucus gathering. The ZANU PF
group started threatening the people present with death if they
do not vote for ZANU PF in the coming elections. |

On 27 February,
ZANU PF members of Gokwe Nduna area held a meeting at Nyamuroro
Secondary School and Mrs. Mafa the ZANU PF district chairperson
in her address warned villagers that they should vote for ZANU
PF or else they would face the wrath of 2008 political
violence. No report was made to the police but villagers
in the Nduna area are now living in fear. |

Munengami of Mhumha village, ward 36 in Nembudziya, on Saturday
2 March survived by a whisker when he escaped from war veterans
Mr. Gondo and Mr. Nyoni who wanted to kidnap him. The case was
reported at Nembudziya Police station and the two suspects were
arrested. The two suspects asked for forgiveness from the victim
and were made to pay admission of guilt fines as well as damages
to Munengami before they were released. |

confisticated radios from villagers in Zhombe area ward 6, on
19 February. Some of the people who lost their radios are Mr.
Kadzunge and Mr. Zviito. |

the 28th of February, Justice Manzini, Pedzisai and Fortunate
Chiwasira were taken into police custody for allegedly putting
up MDC posters on the walls around Kadoma Rimuka area. The three
denied the allegations but they were made to pay $50 fine each. |

The ward
8 MDC councilor, Mr. Kenneth Sithole was assaulted on the 7th
of March by John Kadamanja a ZANU PF youth. Mr. Kadamanja stormed
into a house in Ascot suburb where the councilor was having
a meeting with aspiring candidates for ward 8 and assaulted
him. The youth appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was asked by the magistrate Sithembiso Ncube to pay a fine
of $100 or serve two months in jail of which he opted to pay
the fine. |

A ZANU
PF youth chairperson, Mr. Nathan Muzeza of ward 2, Angwa area
in Mbire reported to JOMIC that he had been assaulted by Mr.
Gomorashe Nongera who is an MDC supporter. He alleged that Mr.
Nongera assaulted him after accusing him of trying to lure MDC
supporters into voting for ZANU PF in the pending elections.
JOMIC intervened on the issue on Tuesday 19 February only to
discover that the ZANU PF youth chair had made false allegations
against Mr. Nongera. After the meeting, JOMIC warned villagers
against making unfounded allegations and encouraged the people
of Mbire to live peacefully and accept their varying political
views. |

business centre, Mr. Jacob Chademana, a ZANU PF aspiring MP
for Masvingo North called for a meeting which was attended by
village heads and headmen from the area. During the meeting,
he threatened the local leadership that if they do not make
sure people under their jurisdiction vote for ZANU PF, they
will all be stripped off their powers. |

Mugabe's area, ward 13 Borahana Business Centre in Masvingo,
Chief Mugabe was forced to call villagers to a meeting on behalf
of ZANU PF officials who used the platform to intimidate and
threaten villagers against voting for any other party other
than ZANU PF. Since the meeting, villagers have been living
in fear of political violence. |

Mr. Nyamayaro
of ward 10, Nyamayaro village in Chief Mangwende area who was
employed as a security guard at the Public Service Commission
office under the Fortified Security Company was forcibly dismissed
from work on 26 February after announcing his interest of contesting
as an MDC councillor for ward 10. Agatha Mudzinganyama a Central
Intelligence officer (CIO) in Mashonaland East initiated the
dismissal alleging that the area has no jobs for MDC supporters
and he (Nyamayaro ) should go and seek employment at the Harvest
House (MDC Headquarters). HZT advised the victim to report the
case to the police. |

On 11 February,
Chief Tsovani of Sengwe area, ward 4 called villagers for a
meeting where he threatened them stating that anyone who does
not vote for ZANU PF in the coming elections will be forced
out of the area. Villagers are now living in fear. |
