Condolence message for Professor Makumbe
Transparency International-Zimbabwe
January 29, 2012

The Board of Trustees, Executive Board and staff of Transparency International Zimbabwe (TI-Z), the leading organization in the fight against corruption is deeply saddened by the death of Professor John Makumbe who passed-on on 27 January 2013. It is with deep sorrow and grief that TI-Z learnt of the sudden departure of Professor Makumbe, one of Zimbabwe's undisputed human rights and anti-corruption heroes. Professor Makumbe as one of the founding members of Transparency International Zimbabwe (TI-Z) will be prominently remembered for his sterling role in the fight against corruption, his promotion of democratic values and his human rights activism.

The story of the excruciating journey towards a corruption free Zimbabwe cannot be told without mentioning the name of Professor Makumbe and his instrumentality in placing the corruption issue on the national agenda. Our heartfelt condolences go the Makumbe family and the entire nation on the loss of a stalwart advocate for justice and democracy.

TI-Z will always remember the only 'white man from Buhera' and continue to be inspired by his legacy of integrity and accountability in the quest for a corruption-free Zimbabwe!

May the Lord grant him eternal peace.
