Bulawayo Agenda
communities, Board and staff joins the nation and all concerned
to express its condolences to the Makumbe family, the academia and
the rest of the country on the sudden and untimely death of Professor
John Makumbe in Harare on Sunday after suffering a heart attack.
Makumbe is said
to have once said "There are various ways of emancipating
Zimbabwe from the tyrannical system of government we have endured
under ZANU PF. You can either make noise from your white castle
or you can put on your boots and overalls and fight for the emancipation
of the country." This statement summarizes of his life and
leadership in contributing towards the democratization of Zimbabwe.
The country has lost a dedicated academic, Human Rights Defender
and leader at the critical hour of changing the course of our history.
What makes Makumbe's death passing away painful is the fact
that Zimbabweans were still grieving the loss of Hon. Siso Moyo
who was the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Mechanization, Prof.
Chavhunduka and Vice President John Nkomo.
Professor John
Makumbe will be buried in Buhera, his rural home, tomorrow, Wednesday
the 30 January 2013.
May his soul
rest in eternal peace.
