Anglican parishioners denied access to the Anglican Cathedral in
Harare
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition
November 29, 2012
Officials from
the Anglican Church led by Bishop Gandiya have reported that Zimbabwe
Republic Police (ZRP) officers led by Chief Superintendent Chagwedera
are denying bona fide Anglican Parishioners from entering the Cathedral
which is situated between Second Street and Nelson Mandela in Harare.
It is alleged
that the police have been informing the parishioners that they can
not use the building since there is a pending case to be heard in
the High Court of Zimbabwe lodged by the estranged Dr Kunonga on
Tuesday, 27 November 2012.
In his application
Kunonga claims that his indigenous church was already implementing
the Government's indegenisation and economic empowerment policy
and that the Anglican Diocese lead by Bishop Chad is foreign and
should not be allowed to take over buildings.
Since 2007,
Bona fide Anglican Parishioners including their leadership experienced
traumatic and ungodly experience in the hands of the ex-communicated
D Kunonga, who through the use of state machinery evicted the parishioners
and rented out most of the Anglican buildings to new tenants. Parishioners
spent five years worshipping under trees and rented township Halls
while Dr Kunonga and his followers illegally enjoyed the benefits
of Anglican properties.
This came to
a halt when the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe finally delivered
a judgment in favour of Bishop Chad Gandiya's formation.
Bishop Kunonga wa given till the 22nd of November to vacate the
Anglican premises without failure.
The involvement of the police is once again testimony to the Coalition's
assertion that the security Sector is extremely partisan and is
deliberately a player in civil matters, which is against the principles
of professionalism and provisions of the Defence Act.
We urge the
Bona fide Anglicans Parishioners led by Bishop Chad to stay resolute
and conquer evil.
