Arrested youth activists finally released
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD)

November 10, 2012

Two arrested political activists Kenny Machingura and Taurai Chidaushe were transferred from Mashava to Masvingo Central on Thursday night. The two activists facing allegations of convening an unsanctioned gathering were represented by Collen Maboke of Mwonzora and Associates representing the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights. The duo were released at Masvingo Central Police station today and the matter is to proceed by way of summons after the intervention of their lawyer.

COTRAD condemns the unlawful arrest and detention in its strongest terms. The incarceration, harassment and intimidation of human rights defenders on trumped up charges must end as this will serve to for many young people to shy away from participating in national processes.
