Glenview 29 trial update
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition
November 10, 2012
The Glenview
29 Trial continued on Thursday 8 November 2012 at the High Court,
with the defense team led by Beatrice Mtetwa cross examining the
Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Clever Ntini.
The defense
counsel challenged the arrest of accused number 11 to number 20
citing that no proper investigations were carried out by the Investigating
Officer, illustrating on how Detective Chief Inspector Ntini depended
on anonymous informants in carrying out his investigations. Ntini
repeatedly refused to identify the informants and only identified
them as six MDC-T supporters.
Beatrice Mtetwa
also questioned the consistency and reliability of Ntini's
informants since he had indicated that his informants were MDC-T
supporters which would imply that the informants were accomplices
to the murder of Petros Mutedza.
On the same
note it emerged that Detective Ntini had not fo-lowed the standard
procedure of carrying out murder investigations which includes:
- following
up on alibis,
- conducting
an indication parade of the accused,
- Interviewing
the accused and
- Keeping records
of investigations, (statements and exhibits) for confirmation
sake by the court of which he failed to do so.
The case will
resume on Monday 12 November 2012 at the High Court from 1130hrs
.
