Police arrest young leaders in Masvingo
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD)

November 06, 2012

Police launched a man haunt in Masvingo yesterday and arrested political activists Kenny Machingura and Taurai Chidaushe while abducting Timothy Mhinga. The two were arrested at 11am at their homestead. Allegations of convening an unsanctioned meeting in Chivi north constituency Ward 8 are being leveled against the two. The alleged meeting was convened at Makovere business centre on Sunday the 4th of November as part of an on going strategy of discussing and sharing information on how young people should be engaged in the governance issues. of their country.

Timothy Mhinga was abducted and is still at large as his whereabouts are still unknown while the two are in the police cells of Mashava and lawyers were being denied access to the arrested duo.

Zimbabwe Republic Police continue to arrest people and denying them freedom of expression and association. The timing of the crackdown is wrong as Zimbabwe is in dire need of genuine security sector reform before any elections are called for in Zimbabwe.

COTRAD will therefor stand firm in fighting against the unprofessional police force and seek for the repealing of the draconian laws like POSA in order for Zimbabweans to enjoy their rights to mingle freely and not being arrested and tortured wantonly.
