A case
of political violence has been reported in Zaka Central. It
is reported that on Saturday, 29 September, Mr. Nelson Bvudzijena
of Mashingaidze village had his house petrol bombed whist
he and his wife were sleeping inside by suspected ZANU PF
supporters. Mr. Bvudzijena who woke up when the house was
already on fire suffered severe injuries on the legs and chest
together with his wife. Bvudzijena has since been admitted
in hospital. The suspects have been identified as John Chabhu,
a son to headman Mashingaidze of ward 8, his sister Osie Mashingaidze,
and their nephew and an unnamed ZANU PF youth militia. The
reason for the attack is said to be the assailants were angered
by an MDC meeting that took place in the area that had been
organised by Bvudzijena as the MDC ward chairman in the area.
It is alleged that the attackers descended on the victim's
home a few days after the meeting, set his house ablaze, destroying
the whole property in the process. The case was reported to
the police but no arrests have been made.
The
Prime Minister, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai visited the victim at
St Anthony hospital but soon after his visit the matron in
charge of the hospital has been receiving death threats from
anonymous callers, the crime being allowing the Prime Minister
to see the victim.
