Zaka
man survives death by a whisker
Bulawayo Agenda
October 15, 2012
A 72 year-old
man from Zaka Central in Masvingo Province survived death by a whisker
after his house was petrol-bombed by suspected ZANU PF assailants
on 29 September 2012.
The man, Nelson
Bvudzijena is the Ward Executive member of the MDC-T.
According to
information relayed by Masvingo Agenda, Bvudzijena's crime
was to take part in mobilizing people to attend a meeting in commemoration
of the 2008 election
violence.
After the meeting
Bvudzijena and other party members visited victims of the violence.
On the fateful
day, Bvudzijena's house was bombed resulting in him sustaining
burns all over his body. He was rushed to St Anthony Clinic where
he is recovering.
In another related
incident, Edison Dendere (36) from Zaka North sustained head injuries
after being assaulted for organizing the same meeting with Bvuzijena.
Dendere was
assaulted on 5 October 2012.
According to
reports from Masvingo Agenda, Dendere was assaulted by know Zanu
PF supporters only referred to as 'Gaddafi' and Chifamba.
Both matters
have however been reported to the police although no arrest has
been made so far.
Bulawayo Agenda
condemns the levels the continued targeted political violence and
calls upon the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
Meeting
with the Minister of Industry and Commerce . . .
Bulawayo Agenda
was attended a civil society meeting with the Minister of Industry
and Commerce Professor Welshman Ncube at the Cilas Conference Center
on Wednesday last week.
Professor Ncube
accused his counterparts in government for lacking sincerity in
ensuring that Bulawayo benefits in government.
He said ministers
opposed to the idea of Dimaf do not contest the idea but simply
do not cooperate at the implementation level.
"At decision
making levels, there is no contestation. Come implementation, people
simply do not own up. A clear example is the DIMAF where it was
agreed that a 50 million dollar fund should be set for distressed
companies, including those under liquidation or judiciary service
management. More than a year after such agreements we find that
the little money that has been given out has gone to Marondera,
Harare and Mutare companies," said Prof Ncube who is also
the President of the MDC.
Speaking on
the involvement of CSOs in the 2nd All-Stakeholders Conference,
Ncube, who is also a principal in the GPA
said civil society organizations wishing to go to the conference
should approach any of the three parties in the Inclusive
Government.
Commenting on
the revelations, Bulawayo
Agenda Executive Director, Thabani Nyoni remained consistent
in that civil society will not attend the conference as proxies
of political parties.
Bulawayo Agenda
calls on COPAC to urgently and officially announce the formula in
which civil society organizations shall take part in the 2nd All-Stakeholders
Conference.
