Mbizo constituency legislator arrested
Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition
October 12, 2012

The Member of Parliament for Mbizo Constituency in Kwekwe, Hon Settlement Chikwinya was arrested in the afternoon on Friday, 12 October 2012. In a text message sent to Crisis Coalition, Hon, Chikwinya stated that he was picked up by police in town in the afternoon for allegedly exposing a vigilante Group, Alshabab which is operating in Kwekwe under the command of Owen "Mudha Mugabe" Ncube who is a member of the Central Intelligence Organisation and ZANU PF Provincial Security Chief. He informed the Crisis Team that members of Alshabab came and disrupted a funeral under the eyes of the police in the afternoon where Hon Chikwinya was one of the mourners. Instead of arresting the troublemakers, uniformed police details arrested Hon. Chikwinya and later detained him at Kwekwe Police Station.

In September this year, Hon. Chikwinya was quoted in a weekly newspaper urging the police to deal with the outfit before "it worsens the chaos and lawlessness in the town." The terror group is suspected to be bankrolled by the Minister of Defense Hon. Emmerson Mnangagwa and his henchman, Owen 'Mudha Mugabe' Ncube. The Group is allegedly evicting shop owners from their business premises under the guise of youth empowerment.
