  • CiZ condemns alleged civil society exclusion from the Second All Stakeholders' Conference
Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (SA Regional Office)
    September 21, 2012

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition is appalled and has received with aversion media reports on the agreement reached by the three main political parties in the GPA on delegations to the Second All Stakeholders Conference.

Recent media reports have insinuated that resolution was reached to the effect that the Second Stakeholders Conference will have a total of 2000 delegates, with 600 delegates from each of the three political parties my have agreed that civil society will only be invited as delegates seconded by the three main political parties within the 2000 delegates.

The COPAC process has by and large been a Political Parties affair, with limited pockets of opportunity to participate by other members of society not from Political Parties. If the indicators are true, they are not only disturbing, but also a complete negation of the limited pockets of opportunity to participate that had been there for none-political society. This arrangement will also be a deviation from the COPAC commitment that the 1st and 2nd All Stakeholders' Conference shall be composed of 70% of the delegates from civil society and 30% from political parties. The deviation from that agreement by political parties reflects a glaring and deliberate attempt by the three political parties in the GPA to continually exclude Civil Society in this important process.

The reports, if true, represents a decision which cannot be condoned and or tolerated, and will be taken as a clear message that political parties want to go it alone in this important nation process. The reported actions, if true, will signify a continuing pattern by political parties, in which they deliberately and consistently show little respect for broad based processes and a genuine conversation which goes beyond their structures and membership.
