There
are reported cases of political violence in Chikandiwa village,
Headman Nyamombe under Chief Makoni in Makoni South. Suspected
ZANU PF supporters attacked and destroyed Wonder Karupoto's
house on Friday, 29 June 2012. The house was destroyed to
ground level. The ZANU PF supporters are said to be from Epworth
and had came to Chikandiwa village to attend a funeral. Upon
being told by other villagers that Mr Karupoto was an MDC
supporter they started insulting him with obscenities and
threatened to beat him up. The victim sensing danger left
for his house and sought refuge in his hut. The perpetrators
followed him and demanded that he come out and surrender his
party regalia which he refused. When the victim refused to
come out that is when they lit his hut destroying all the
property inside. It is alleged that when the hut was on fire
the assailants ran away. Mr. Karupoto had to escape the fire
through the window and suffered minor injuries in the process.
Some of the suspects have been identified as Joshua Kadungure,
Gilbert Kadungure, Dennis Kadungure and the other five have
not yet been recognized. A police report has been made at
Chitenderano police station and people are still waiting for
action from the police to apprehend all the perpetrators.
