State
opposes bail to youth activist
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD)
July 06, 2012
COTRAD activist
appeared before Masvingo Magistrate court today facing two counts
of contravening section 25 (5) of the Public
Order and Security Act (POSA) chapter 11.17 number 18/2007 and
undermining the authority of the president defined in section 33(1)
(b) of the code.
Dorothy Mwanyisa
is the magistrate presiding over the case. The sate is represented
by prosecutor Murambiza who is also a member of the Central Intelligence
Organization (CIO). The state opposed the granting of bail to the
youth activists citing that they needed two weeks of verifying the
residential addresses of the youths and were a flight risk because
of the gravity of the offenses committed.
The lack of
the rule of law in Zimbabwe continues to be menace to the attainment
of the fundamental human freedoms which COTRAD as an institution
is seeking to preserve. The partiality of the judiciary, police
force is at stake as Zimbabwe continues to a be a country where
human freedoms are abused.
COTRAD will
continue to play beacon role in the quest to attain political, socio-economic
rights to the generality of the Zimbabweans.
