Zimbabwe
Civil Society to Pursue a Non-partisan political Advocacy Agenda
Zimbabwe civil society and church leaders recently met and re-affirmed
their commitment to pursuing a neutral, non-partisan political advocacy
agenda in greater unity and coordination around the following key
uniting messages:
1. A call for no-violent, democratic, free and fair elections in
line with SADC principles and guideline.
2. Support and mobilization around the voter registration process
with a focus on first time voters, particularly young voters and
on updating and cleaning up voters' roll.
3. Continued focus on Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) reforms
in orders to guarantee its total independence, professionalism and
capacity to run credible elections.
4. Commitment to developing strategies to defend the vote following
elections in the event of failure to respect the will of the people.
5. Agreement and commitment to cascade messages to constituencies
and the grassroots.
6. Broaden the sharing of a common message by civics to build SADC,
AU and international consensus on Zimbabwe.
