First draft consultations complete
The
Constitutional Select Committee (COPAC)
May 10, 2012
The Constitution
Parliamentary Committee (COPAC) wishes to advise Zimbabweans that
the consultations
that have been taking place on the First COPAC Draft Constitution
as mandated by the Management Committee have now been complete and
the feedback is now available.
The Select Committee
will therefore meet on Monday the 14th of May 2012 to consider the
issues raised during the consultations. Thereafter, a Second COPAC
Draft Constitution will be completed and submitted to the Management
Committee for its review. This Second COPAC Draft Constitution will
incorporate issues which the Management Committee resolved to 'unpack'
during its own consultations as well as any matter arising out of
the feedback received.
Once the completed
Second COPAC Draft Constitution has been adopted by the Management
Committee, it will be availed to the people of Zimbabwe for broader
consultations, culminating in the Second All Stakeholders Conference
and the Referendum. A Final COPAC Draft Constitution will incorporate
changes that the people of Zimbabwe, through their representatives
at the Second All Stakeholders Conference, would have made to the
Draft agreed to buy the coalition partners in the GNU
through the current consultations.
COPAC wishes
to thank Zimbabweans for their patience. The Committee is mindful
of the need to have the Constitution making process concluded as
a matter of urgency.
