Province and District The General Environment General Political Atmosphere
Manicaland
Buhera Central
Tense On 6 February 2012, Seretina Neshumba from ward 23 in Buhera District was assaulted by her relative Margret Ticharima, (a Zanu PF member) and sustained serious head injuries. The incident happened around 10pm. It is alleged that the assault came after Ms Neshumba refused to attend a Zanu PF meeting on the 5th of February at 12 midday which was addressed by a war veteran named Nzuwa. An argument arose between the two where Ms Ticharima accused the victim of exposing the family to victimization by refusing to attend the meeting but the victim argued that she could not attend a ZANU PF meeting since she supports MDC and this infuriated the accused leading to the assault. The victim was referred to Murambinda general hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Mashonaland East
Hwedza
Calm In Hwedza District the situation is calm and there are no reported cases of harassment and intimidation.
Mashonaland Central
Muzarabani
Moderate

The general political atmosphere in most parts of the district is calm. Many traditional leaders in the area are reminding the villagers that peace should continue to prevail even if people get close to the election period. People are being urged not to repeat the 2008 electoral violence that led to the death of 22 people in the area.

However still in Muzarabani, the Grain Marketing Board grain loan scheme to mitigate the food shortages in the area is being distributed unfairly on party basis. It is reported that only ZANU supporters are benefitting from the scheme. Mr George Bumhira, a village head recently told villagers in Hoya, Muzarabani South that they should join ZANU PF for them not to starve. Mr Faiton Mupinga a district chairman (ZANU PF) and Mr. Pfotso a Councillor are said to be the ones giving instructions that grain loans should be being given to ZANU PF supporters only. Chief Kasekete is said to have tried to intervene in trying to solve the anomaly but to no avail.

In ward 27, Mr. Isaac Mupeyami, the village head is reportedly to have told people in his area that his party is already on the campaign trail and they are not going to waste resources distributing the grain loans to enemies (MDC supporters).

Heal Zimbabwe will appeal to JOMIC to intervene and address the food distribution challenges people are facing in their respective communities.
