An update on the political environment in Zimbabwe
Heal Zimbabwe Trust
December 07, 2011

Province and District The General Environment General Political Atmosphere
Manicaland - Buhera Calm The situation is calm but MDC activists are being denied access to government agricultural inputs by suspected ZANU PF officials. They claim that the inputs are meant to benefit ZANU PF members only as they are from the President. But on paper the farming inputs are meant to benefit very Zimbabwean in need regardless of political affiliation.
Masvingo - Zaka Calm No cases of political violence reported but MDC supporters are still being denied access to farming inputs by suspected ZANU PF members.
Midlands - Gokwe Calm The area is relatively quiet and political rallies are taking place without any hindrance.
Mashonaland Central Calm No cases of violence or intimidation recorded in the previous week.
Masvingo - Gutu Calm The area is generally calm but a worrying trend is that police officers are attending internal MDC meetings by force ostensibly to eavesdrop on their plans as well as intimidating the activists from debating critical internal issues affecting the party. This is making the activists wary of the intentions of the police.
Mashonaland East - Mutoko Calm No reported cases of political violence
Bulawayo Tense People are being forced to pay one dollar per family for the holding of the Zanu PF Conference which is scheduled to start on Thursday 8 December 2011. A lot of youth and state security agents have descended on the city of Bulawayo.

A market stall in the city centre was forced to close on Saturday 3 December 2011 after ZANU PF youths forced the vendors to attend a party meeting at the Royal Hotel. It is allegedly that the youths went around disturbing the vendors and forcing them to stop selling their wares attend the meeting which took more than 4 hours. The vendors were angered by the move as most of them claimed that they are neither MDC or ZANU PF and are mainly concerned about bread and butter issues of trying to feed their families.

It is also reported that there is a heavy police presence in the city center and many surrounding areas which is threatening the citizens who are finding it difficult to carry out their day to day activities especially after 4pm.
