A Public Dialogue
Meeting was held in Gweru on Thursday, 24 November 2011 at the Gweru
Rainbow Theatre under the theme "2011 in Retrospect".
The purpose of the meeting was to review year 2011, achievements
and challenges of the Inclusive Government that political parties
came across during the year. Speakers included Morgan Komichi (MDC
T), T.C Mabhiza (ZANU PF) and Kudakwashe Munengiwa. 163 participants
across political divide attended the meeting. Both political parties
agreed that the Inclusive
Government have managed to at least bring all political parties
closer and to some mutual understanding of each other. The political
parties also agreed that there should be security sector reforms
before elections are held. Participants castigated political violence
and called on political parties to promote peace by not just talking
but by taking action against violence perpetrators. They also said
the political parties should stop using the media for fanning hate
speech against each other. The participants also said there is need
for the opening up of airwaves and urgent security sector reforms
which will facilitate a free and fair election.
Plumtree
Another Public
Dialogue Meeting was held in Plumtree on Friday, 25 November 2011
at the Bulilimamangwe Business Incubator (BBI) also under the theme
"2011 in Retrospect." The purpose of the meeting was
to evaluate successes and failures of the Inclusive Government in
the year 2011. The speaker was Hon Moses Mzila-Ndlovu who is the
MP for Bulilima East and also Co-Minister in the Organ for National
Healing, Reconciliation and Reintegration. The meeting was attended
by 63 participants. Mzila Ndlovu said 2011 saw an improvement in
the economy evidenced by the growth of the economy and the ready
availability of commodities in shops. He however said there was
still a lot to be done as most prices are beyond the reach of many.
On the political front, participants were unanimous that there was
no improvement. They said there is a lot of political intolerance
and disagreements within parties in the Inclusive Government. They
also said police are vested with too much power which they use to
harass citizens.
