NCA
on political violence
National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)
November
02, 2011
The National
Constitutional Assembly (NCA) expresses sadness with the escalation
of politically motivated violent that has rocked the city of Harare
in the past weeks. The ugly scenes of violence witnessed in Hatcliffe
and Harvest House paints a bad picture on Zimbabwe's political
landscape.
It is regrettable
to note that since the formation of the inclusive
government the parties involved have failed to accommodate each
other and now they have resorted to violence to solve their difference.
As the NCA, we wish to categorically and unequivocally condemn any
form of violence and we urge those involved to stop this madness.
We also wish
to register our disappointment in the partisan manner in which the
police are dealing with the issue of political violence. Instead
of the police to ensure that there is peace in the country they
are busy perpetrating violence and are acting as an extension of
ZANU-PF as seen by their selective application of law.
As NCA we want
to remind the police that they should act in a professional manner
and those who want to participate in political activities must leave
the police force and join politics.
Regardless of
our continuous lack of confidence in the leadership in government,
we call upon all principals, in this inefficient administration
to advise their followers to stop using violence in solving their
differences. Zimbabweans are generally a peace-loving nation and
hence we want to live in peace and unity as brothers and sisters.
The NCA will
continue campaigning against political violence through its campaign
'Act Now Against Political Violence.'
We will continue
being guided by the Zimbabwe
Peoples Charter Section 1.2 (iii) which calls for an environment
where safety and security are guaranteed to all citizens and a lawful
environment free from human rights violations and impunity.
We will not
be deterred in spreading our gospel of peace, love and unity in
our country and we hope the message is clear to those perpetrating
violence and their masters.
