The Coalition hails UNDP support to ZEC
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition
September 30, 2011
Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition hails the condoning towards political,
economic and democratic development in Zimbabwe. This follows the
recent hand over of vehicles and equipment to the Zimbabwe Electoral
Commission (ZEC) by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
UNDP together with other stakeholders such as the European Commission,
SIDA, and Denmark handed over 11 Prado vehicles, 100 desktop computers,
125 notebook computers and 86 printers to the Zimbabwe Electoral
Commission.
We commend the
UNDP for its continued support and hope that ZEC recognizes that
such efforts are meant to assist Zimbabwe to deliver a free and
fair election. Moreover, the Coalition hopes that ZEC will desist
from compromising the country's sovereignty by realising that
it plays an important role in advancing sustainable development
and democratic elections in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabweans
do not anticipate a recurrence of the March
2008 presidential elections scenario where (ZEC) went for nearly
two months without announcing election results, plunging the country
into anxiety and tension. We do hope that many sincere partners
like UNDP will come forward to support ZEC and allow the commission
to administer the election in a professional and un-manipulated
manner.
We also advise
ZEC o use this equipment to expedite the process of coming up with
a new voter database as a starting point towards the creation of
a new voter's roll.
