NCA
on political violence
National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)
September
08, 2011
The National
Constitutional Assembly (NCA) is concerned with the recent spates
of violence that has swept the city of Harare in the past few days.
The ugly scenes of violence
witnessed at Parliament
on Tuesday and yesterday in Highfields are regrettable despite calls
for tolerance by the political leaders.
We note that
the escalation of violence is as a result of President Mugabe 's
pronouncements that elections will be held next year in March and
it seems the political parties are now in campaign mood.
The violence
signals instability in our country and must be quelled before it
fuels to the levels we saw before the 2008 elections.
We wish to condemn
the barbaric acts of violence between political parties and this
should stop forthwith. Violence brings misery to our peace loving
society and we say a big NO to political violence.
As the NCA,
through our 'Act Now Against Political Violence Campaign'
we urge all political parties involved in this scourge to unite
and to exercise tolerance.
We are however
worried about the partisanship of our police force who are only
shifting the blame to the MDC while leaving those from ZANU PF.
The NCA urges
the police to refrain from this behaviour and instead fight hard
to combat this scourge and bringing the perpetrators to book.
