NCA Women Assembly meets
National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)
September 01, 2011

The National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) Women's Assembly leadership yesterday 31 August 2011, gathered at Bumbiro House to reflect on a wide range of issues affecting the female constituency.

The meeting, attended by all provincial representatives is part of the NCA consultative program of its structures as the movement is consolidating its support base in various parts of the country.

Top on the agenda of discussion was the 'Act Now Against Political Violence Campaign,' a campaign currently underway and whose objective seeks among other things to address the scourge of political violence as the country approaches yet another referendum by raising awareness, building support structures, name and shame perpetrators as well as capacitating women and communities at large to deal with the scourge at two levels: prevention and support for victims.

Reports submitted from various provinces indicated that the campaign has gathered momentum with all provinces making submissions on the various activities that they have been conducting as far as the campaign is concerned. The meeting reported that the Assembly has managed to do a lot of activities including community workshops, road shows and dramas, as a means of spreading the message against political violence targeting the female constituency.

The assembly leadership castigated those who use violence against women as a means of gaining cheap political mileage and vowed to expose all perpetrators.

The delegates also expressed satisfaction on the progress of the membership recruitment drive that the organisation embarked on the 5th of June 2011 as a means of increasing the movement's support base and visibility as we gear up for the referendum.

Since the organisation launched the new membership forms in June this year thousands of Zimbabweans have been joining the NCA a clear indication that the movement's support base is greatly increasing.

We will continue preaching our gospel unequivocally, and that gospel is about a new constitution for Zimbabwe, a constitution that is born out of a genuine, people driven, democratic process not the scandalous money making scheme by COPAC. The NCA will not allow Zimbabweans to be fooled by greedy and selfish politicians in government who have lost touch with the people. As the NCA our vision is a prosperous, democratic and united country founded on human dignity and social justice.

Therefore we will remain guided by the resolutions of the National Working Peoples Convention, 1st and 2nd People's Constitutional Convention(s) and the Zimbabwe Peoples Charter in articulating the aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe.
