Draft constitution expected in November
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition
August 25, 2011
Zimbabwean should
expect a Draft Constitution in November 2011, the Constitutional
Parliamentary Committee (COPAC) said yesterday, 24 August 2011.
Speaking during
an interview with The Catalyst, a representative from COPAC stated
that members of the 17 thematic committees had finished
compiling the ward, district and provincial reports on the 14th
of August 2011 with work on the national report expected to begin
in September. Thereafter, the Committee shall start working on the
draft Constitution on the 1st of October, a process which takes
a period of one month. COPAC informed the Catalyst that by mid-November
the Draft Constitution will be out and ready to got the Parliament
for debate.
In the past,
COPAC has missed its own targets mainly due to political bickering,
inadequate resources and lack of commitment particularly from ZANU
PF. The Coalition hopes that political parties will remain fully
committed to the implementation of the Global
Peace Agreement (GPA) Article VI parties on the need to carry
out people centered constitutional reform process ahead of the future
elections.
