Police disrupt and detain peaceful protesters
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD)

August 24, 2011

Police at Masvingo Central detained COTRAD executive, Gamuchirai Mukura (23) and Brighton Ramusi (25) Muchaneta Chimbo (24) and Talent Maposa (21) from 0730hrs-1330hrs in the wake of a peaceful march against intimidation, zero-tolerance to political diversity and disturbance of peace by the self-proclaimed war veterans' leader Jabulani Sibanda.

They were severely intimidated and warned against fighting the self proclaimed veterans leader. Such involvement of the police to thwart freedom of assembly, association is untimely when Zimbabwe is in dire need of Security sector reforms. In the wake of this youths and COTRAD vow to stamp out outstanding anomalies in the quest to attain peace and freedom therefore COTRAD will seek to petition both the Governor of Masvingo and the Zimbabwe Republic Police to be impartial and take action against the veterans leader.
