CRD congratulates Farai Maguwu
Centre for Research and Development
August 15, 2011

The Board of Directors and Staff of the Center for Research and Development would like to join civil society and CRD partners in congratulating the Director of Center for Research and Development Farai Maguwu for being awarded the prestigious Human Rights Watch Alison Des Forges Award for extraordinary activism.

The Center for Research and Development remains seized with its determination to work with progressive voices in Zimbabwe and around the world to promote a culture of peace, development and respect for human rights in Zimbabwe.

It is in this context that we are humbled by the honor bestowed upon Farai by Human Rights Watch for the sterling work he and the CRD team are doing to create a better Zimbabwe where all people can live together in peace and harmony. We view the award as a reminder that although defending human rights is risky, it is an effort that does not go unrecognized. Although the award was given to Farai, he receives it in a representative capacity and on behalf of all human rights defenders who are at the frontline of defending human rights of others. Farai attributes the award to the support he got from various stakeholders and other human rights defenders.
