War veterans at it again
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD)

July 21, 2011

In a bizarre incident today at Masvingo Charles Austin Theater venue more than 300 war veterans were buzzed by Zanu-PF to disrupt a Parliamentary Human Rights Bill presentation which was supposed to kick start at 1100 am. The thematic committee chairperson got interrupted in the process of opening the public meeting that was suppose to benefit the residents of Masvingo and the nation at large. Such gross abuse of fundamental human rights to participate in the national discourse is unwarranted as people who had gathered were made to stumble for survival after being intimidated by the overzealous war veterans.

This incident is not peculiar to the activities that are currently taking place in Masvingo as Jubulani Sibanda is also on record of intimidating subjects as a coercive measure to make people follow his dirty antics. The rule of law is not applying and citizens are now afraid of participating in such national issues that are meant to benefit them. The Zimbabwe Republic Police did not perform to its expectations in which their primary objective is to make sure there is peace, harmony and tranquility in society. Their non-participation to avert the catastrophic situation highlighted that the police force was not impartial which makes it extremely dangerous to have any national processes like elections.
