Moses Chokuda not yet buried, 3 years down the line
Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition

The body of Moses Chokuda, an MDC activist who was murdered in the run up to the 2008 sham Presidential election still lies in the metal police coffin in which it was brought to the mortuary three years after his death. Information gathered by The Coalition during a community meeting held at Gokwe Hall on Saturday 25 June 2011 and attended by 87 people (52 men and 35 women) indicates that Moses Chokuda was murdered by Farai Machaya - son of the Midlands Governor Jason Machaya - and Edmore Gana, son of the Zanu PF district coordinating committee chairperson for Gokwe, Isaac Gana.

The Coalition also convened a meeting in Torwood on Saturday 25 June 2011 which was attended by 112 people. The meetings were addressed by Mr. Pedzisayi Ruhanya, The Coalition's Programs Manager and Mr. Charles Chikozho from the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions. Mr Chikozho reminded the workers of their rights to being treated humanely; he added that as workers they are opposed to the holding of elections in the current environment. It was also disturbing to realize that at least 3 people died within a month due to occupation related illnesses and accidents at Ziscosteel, a situation described as unacceptable by the residents of Torwood.

Mr. Ruhanya informed the meeting that there is a process in place to formulate a roadmap by the political parties in the Inclusive Government although they have not agreed on a roadmap. He told the people that the constitution making process is now at the thematic stage and advised the residents of Torwood to register to vote in the referendum and the elections whenever they will be held.
