ZANU-PF militia petrol-bomb houses in Chipinge
Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition

Villagers from Nyamukwarara in Chipinge district of Manicaland Province were forced to flee their homes on Sunday 8 May 2011 after ZANU-PF militia went on a rampage at around 3 am petrol bombing two houses belonging to Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Ward 27 Chairman Solomon Mutizawafa and his Ward 16 counterpart Monica Maphosa. It is believed that the village was targeted because the inhabitants are largely supporters of the MDC-T.

Reports have also been received by The Catalyst that five bases were set up by armed uniformed soldiers in Makoni South also in Manicaland where the soldiers are constantly monitoring the district in a development which underlines the critical need for security sector reforms ahead of any elections.

Parts of the Manicaland province are under siege from ZANU-PF supporters who have gone on a rampage, intimidating and instigating violence particularly in areas where the party suffered its biggest electoral losses in the 2008 elections. The targeted violence is a deliberate campaign to force people into supporting ZANU PF. The party's control over the army and police remains the greatest threat to the country's political processes.
