NCA to conduct elections at the MDC Congress
National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)
April 27, 2011

The National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) has been officially invited by the Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai to conduct elections at their congress pencilled for Bulawayo from the 28-30 April 2011.

The relationship between the NCA and the MDC dates back to the National Working People's Convention in 1999 during the formation of the party. The NCA together with the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) and Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) were key allies during the formation of the party. In essence the alliance played an organic role in giving birth to the labour movement.

This is not the first time that the NCA has been requested to conduct the elections for the party. It conducted the MDC 2006 elections at the congress held at the City Sports Centre.

The NCA National Chairperson Professor Lovemore Madhuku will lead the delegation which will comprise of National Spokesperson Madock Chivasa, National Youth Chairperson Alois Dzvairo, Gender Chairperson Dorothy Bhebhe amongst others.

We hope the MDC will emerge a stronger, united and committed movement in the quest for the full democratization of Zimbabwe after this congress. It is our firm belief that violence, factionalism and intolerance will weaken the party ahead of the national plebiscite.

The party should guard against counter revolutionary forces and reactionary elements who are working nicodemously to disturb the smooth running of congress.

We wish to assure the delegates that we are going to conduct a free and fair election to ensure that their candidates for the day win. As a neutral organisation we will not be biased towards any candidates and the choice of the delegates supporters will prevail.

The NCA wish the MDC a successful and peaceful congress and remains hopeful that the party will come up with a sound policy direction to guide its operations for the next five (5) years.
