Peace petition circulates
Bulawayo Agenda

March 15, 2011

Bulawayo - Bulawayo Agenda is currently circulating a call for peace petition that shall be handed over the 3 principals in the Inclusive government, the organ for national healing, and other relevant stakeholders. The petition is a response to the escalating violence in different parts of the country, selective arrests of MDC-T political leaders and civic society leaders and the continued silence on Gukurahundi and the post March 2008 election violence despite the existence of the organ of peace. The organisation says it is deeply concerned about recent outbreaks of political violence, the hate speech as well as the increasing deployment of military personnel in some of the streets and townships of Zimbabwe. The organisation is aiming at getting as much as possible signatures on the petition. The petition has also been sent to the organization's chapters: namely Gwanda (for Mat South), Lupane (for Mat. North), Gweru (for Midlands), Masvingo and Mutare.

Bulawayo - Residents of Bulawayo's Mpopoma high density suburb were allegedly forced to attend a ZANU PF meeting last week. The residents were on their way to mid-week evening prayers when they met ZANU PF supporters who accused them of boycotting their party meetings but had time to go to church. They were instructed to go back home and leave their bibles and then find their way to the meeting where people were told to vote for President Mugabe whenever elections are announced because they had been given maize seed.
