    Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition

    Constitutional Parliamentary Select Committee (COPAC) co-chairperson and Nyanga North legislator, Honourable Douglas Mwonzora remains in custody as lawyers await the High Court's response to the bail application made yesterday.

    Gwisai transferred to Chikurubi Maximum Prison

    Arrested socialist activist Munyaradzi Gwisai, Hopewell 'Musavhaya' Gumbo and 36 other activists were today, 3 March 2011 transferred to Chikurubi Maximum Remand Prison while the other 8 remain at Harare Remand Prison. However, all the activists were examined by private doctors at the Harare Remand Prison as per Magistrate Mutevedzi's order. The 46 are facing charges of plotting to unseat a 'democratic government, Egyptian style'. They are set to appear in court on the 7th of March 2011.

    WOZA activists tortured in custody

    The seven members of the Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) who were arrested on the 28th of February and released yesterday evening were allegedly tortured while in police custody with one of them suffering a ruptured ear, the Coalition has learnt. According to a doctor's report, one of the activists' ear drum suffered permanent damage. The seven were arrested while attending a burial society meeting and were charged with Contravening Section 37 (1) (a) (i) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23; "Acting together with one or more other persons with him/her in any place realising that there is a real risk or possibility of disturbing peace, security or order of the public". The seven were released on fifty dollars bail and order to report to the Law and Order Section of Bulawayo Central Police Station twice a week on Mondays and on Fridays. They were ordered to surrender their traveling documents, not to interfere with witnessed and lastly to reside at their given addresses.
