journalists to promote media independence
Bulawayo Agenda
February 03, 2011
Bulawayo - Qhubani Moyo, the National Organising
Secretary of the MDC says there is no reason for the President of
Zimbabwe to refuse to swear in Professor Welshman Ncube as the Deputy
Prime Minister in the inclusive government. He said according to
the GPA,
everyone in the government is subject to a reshuffle except the
President. Moyo attacked MDC critics saying MDC T had a cabinet
reshuffle and there was no outcry."Why should there be an outccry
when MDC is doing it?", Moyo asked. He further went on to explain
that the MDC party has not yet written to the President about their
intention to reshuffle therefore what ever the President has said
when having tea in Ethiopia does not concern them as a party, as
they are yet to communicate to him.
Bulawayo - A leading academia and analyst, Dr Lawton
Hikwa, said journalists need to be sufficiently resourced so as
to avoid being used by politicians. Hikwa said for journalists to
be sincere, fair and unbiased in their reporting they do not have
to ask for favors, especially from politicians who he described
as manipulative. Most journalists in Zimbabwe are not adequately
resourced by their media houses. This has led to them being bailed
out by politicians, who in turn demand that they do not report against
them.
