Traffic police lock down Bulawayo
Bulawayo Agenda

January 10, 2011

Traffic police in Bulawayo have virtually closed all entrances into the city centre from the suburbs. Commuter omnibus crews had to drive around the city in a bid to gain entrance. Some commuters were dropped out of town as crews avoided being arrested by the police, who were on both feet and on patrol vehicles. Some allege that the police have been instructed to raise money for elections, which President Mugabe wants as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, reports are that several BMW vehicles that traffic police had acquired have been accident damaged. It is alleged that the police are now using a Mercedes Benz borrowed from the Bulawayo state house. The Daily Agenda had said when the vehicles were acquired that they would be soon damaged as police officers are reckless drivers. One of the BMW was damaged while chasing a Quantum vehicle.

Bulawayo - Schools are opening tomorrow, 11/01/11. Parents and pupils are busy making a last minute rush. Queues have started forming at school wear shops as they buy school uniforms. Banks are also busy with parents paying school fees. A quick survey revealed that banks such as CBZ already had long queues before the start of business.
