  • Taskforce meeting resolutions
    National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)
    October 12, 2010

    The National Constitutional Assembly National Taskforce having met in Harare on the 10th of October 2010 and deliberated on a wide range of issues resolved;

    1. That COPAC be disbanded with immediate effect and pave way for an Independent commission to start a fresh process that allows the participation of all Zimbabweans.

    2. That the present government is only transitional and hence any elections to be held should be conducted under a new people driven constitution to ensure a free and fair poll

    3. The NCA shall continue to emphasize that constitutional reform is about the prosperity of the people. Constitutional reform is not confined to political issues. Accordingly, in order to raise awareness on this principle, the NCA shall henceforth speak on social and economic issues, particularly social and economic rights which a new constitution must address.

    4. The national leadership will embark on a nationwide tour revamping all structures of the NCA to ensure that the structures actively pursue the NCA programmes of rejecting COPAC and mobilizing the public for a massive NO vote at the referendum.

    5. The NCA reiterates its rejection of the Kariba Draft or any other negotiated constitutional document. Political parties have no basis whatsoever to impose a constitution on the people of Zimbabwe. It was noted that the Kariba Draft is an illegitimate document crafted by a handful of political elites.

    The NCA insist that Zimbabweans must be given the right to determine the rules to be put in the national constitution and it is not acceptable for politicians to negotiate on their behalf.
