Jabulani Sibanda on war path - again
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition
September 28, 2010
War veterans'
leader and self imposed political Commissar, Jabulani Sibanda who,
around June this year was accused of causing chaos during COPAC
constitutional outreach meeting across the country, is at it again.
This time, Sibanda is reportedly calling for meetings in the Zaka
district where Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) members are
being forced to renounce their party membership.
According to
a report received by The Daily Catalyst, one such meeting is scheduled
to take place on the 29th September 2010 at Chief Rangariai Nhema's
homestead where villagers from as far afield as 30km are being forced
to attend the meeting or face unspecified action. Another meeting
is scheduled to take place at Chief Bota's homestead on the
12th October 2010. Reports are that, Sibanda's terror and
intimidation campaign began in August but was deterred by outcries
from civic organizations in the area. This time around Sibanda has
sent letters to chiefs in Chivi informing them of the meetings.
Zanu PF sympathizers such as chief Nhema have gone a step further
to instruct all their headmen to call on all their subjects to attend
these meetings.
It is alleged
that Sibanda is also being aided by self styled war veterans'
leader and regular election dismal performer, Joseph Chinotimba
and other war veterans in the area. The two are allegedly coercing
MDC members to immediately renounce their membership and submit
their membership card and all party regalia for burning as a symbol
of repentance. They have also declared that the four seats that
were won by the MDC in the district should be returned to ZANU PF
or else there would be bloodshed. People under Chief Nhema are appealing
for any form assistance from organizations in order to stop this
impending danger. The people are also calling on Chief Nhema to
either step down as chief or leave political issues to politicians.
The Crisis in
Zimbabwe Coalition denounces such acts of violence and intimidation
by the two war driven Zanu PF thugs and calls on the people of Zimbabwe
to remain resilient in the face of such abhorrent stunts.
