in Zimbabwe Coalition
August 19, 2010
The Crisis in
Zimbabwe Coalition hosted a road show under the Voice Up constitutional
campaign at the Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) Expo at Harare
Gardens yesterday, 18 August 2010 where the public was entertained
by Madiz of the 'Amina' fame, Toyi-toyi Arts Kollective
of the Huya mweya toyi-toyi fame and the Zimbabwe
Poets for Human Rights (ZPHR) of the Maopareshoni nemakomishoni
fame, Savanna
Trust and Syndicate dance group.
The event drew an estimated
350 people and was aimed at providing edutainment on the constitution
reform process which is currently underway. Speaking at the sidelines
of the event, Robson Shoes from ZPHR said, "The road show
is meant to conscientise people on the constitution-making process
and call for full participation.' He reiterated that many
people in Harare remain unaware of the importance of the process
resulting in lack of interest. The Constitutional Parliamentary
Committee (COPAC) is expected to descend on Harare during the first
week of September 2010 to solicit views from citizens in the capital.
During the road show,
members of the public were educated on the talking points and encouraged
to participate en masse in the constitution making process. Information
on the constitution was disseminated through the artists and information
materials distributed.
The National
Association of Non-Government Organizations (NANGO) organized
NGO Expo which is running from the 18th to the 20th of August 2010,
is a platform for civil society organizations and stakeholders to
engage and deliberate on national issues including the constitutional
reform process, women and gender issues and human rights.
