Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition
(The Coalition) held a community meeting in Buhera at Makanda Secondary
School under the VOICE UP campaign on the 13th of August 2010. The
campaign is aimed at informing and updating people on the ongoing
constitution making process. The community meeting was attended
by 97 people (65 men and 32 women).
Participants at the meeting
highlighted that despite the high levels of intimidation and violence
in the area they are determined to participate during the Constitutional
Parliamentary Committee (COPAC) outreach meetings. "It is
our democratic right to participate and articulate our views during
the outreach meetings being held by COPAC," said Paul Makuvise,
a councillor in the area. He went on to encourage the participants
to express themselves freely during the outreach meetings.
The Coalition is holding
a series of meetings in communities prior to COPAC outreach meetings
to ensure that people are informed on the ongoing constitution making
process. The meetings are also aimed at addressing gaps indentified
during the monitoring of COPAC outreach meetings such as poor publicity
and limited knowledge on constitutional issues.
