ZANU
PF activists besiege CCDZ road show on the constitution
Centre for Community Development in Zimbabwe
(CCDZ)
July 15, 2010
A group of ZANU PF activists
ransacked a roadshow organized by the Centre for Community Development
In Zimbabwe (CCDZ) at Mutawatawa Growth Point in Uzumba Maramba
Pfungwe yesterday. The activists ordered participants to leave the
venue of the roadshow because they said the roadshow had not been
authorized by the party leadership in the area.
Only a few brave participants
remained at the venue of the roadshow to listen to speeches by CCDZ
director Phillip Pasirayi, Programmes Officer Tsungai Vere and ZINASU
President Obert Masaraure. Some of the ZANU PF youths who were chasing
away participants were riding motorbikes. The activists were asking
people to leave the roadshow and not to listen to NGOs, which they
claimed are fronting the regime change agenda. The people who had
accepted CCDZ t-shirts and leaflets were asked to return the materials.
CCDZ and ZINASU defied
the ZANU PF youths and continued to distribute civic education material
to people who were now milling around the venue of the roadshow.
Pasirayi urged people not to be misled by self-serving politicians
who are not interested in a genuine Constitution. The Zinasu President
told the few participants who listened from shops and verandas that
the Constitution-making process was not a preserve of political
parties but that every Zimbabwean citizen has a right to participate.
He scolded partisan village heads and traditional leaders who dabble
in politics and mobilize people to support ZANU PF.
