  • Maguwu remanded in custody again
    Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition
    July 02, 2010

    Day 29

Harare magistrate, Donald Ndirowei, today, 2 July 2010 remanded Center for Research and Development (CRD) Director, Farai Maguwu in custody to the 14th of July to allow the state time for further investigations.

Delivering his judgment, Ndirowei said that the state needs to continue with its extra territorial investigations. This is despite the fact that Detective Inspector Dowa admitted before the courts yesterday, 1 July that investigations are moving at a slow pace.

Speaking to The Catalyst after the court session, Defense Attorney, Mr. Tinoziva Bere argued that Maguwu is being punished for bringing to the fore the state's activities at the Chiadzwa diamond fields. Mr. Bere added that Maguwu's continued remand in custody is a deliberate ploy by the state to silence civil society voices ahead of The World Diamond Council (WDC) seventh annual meeting which will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia from the 14th to the 15th of July 2010.
